I have gone through my library and selected the books that have been most useful to me and to students who were just beginning to explore photography. Yes, I own every one of these books and refer to them often for many reasons. The Scott Kelby books are perfect for people who like to keep things simple and follow instructions as if they were in the field. Martin Evening writes for those who want to fully understand the process. I enjoy both approaches so they are all part of my personal collection. Photoshop specific books are not outdated with a new software version. Nothing much has changed since PS7 other than the tools are sleeker and you can do more steps with one click but the premise is the same. This means, don’t be afraid to invest in a book thinking it will be redundant. It won’t be.
I’m also happy to discover that I can get Kindle versions for some of the photo books. Amazon offers Kindle for Mac and Windows at no cost so you can download your books and read them on the computer with all the colour photos intact. Some prefer the print versions to have open as they work but if there is a significant price difference, why not opt for a digital version?
If you are considering one of these books, please make your purchase through here and help support this site. The cost to you is the same and it’s much appreciated!
